Dusan Vlahovic spoke to Sky Sport (as quoted by ilbianconero) after Juventus’ 4-4 draw against Borussia Dortmund, underlining the need for the team to improve its game management.
“You’ve got heart, but maybe you should avoid getting into situations like this…” he was asked.
“I agree, everything comes with experience. We are a young team, but we need to play matches better. We need to start reading games, closing them earlier, we can’t concede goals right after scoring. Every time we score… It’s happened in these last two matches — two days ago we won, today we drew. In any case, we can learn a lot and the important thing is that we didn’t lose, so we need to keep going this way.”
Vlahovic was also asked whether Tudor might decide to keep him on the bench more regularly, given his knack for scoring after coming on.
“I don’t know, it’s up to the coach to decide who plays. I make myself available. I try to train at my best every day and do everything he asks. That’s fine with me, the important thing is scoring goals. Whether I start on the bench or in the XI doesn’t make much difference to me.”
When reminded that some of his best recent performances have come as a substitute, the striker was clear.
“I don’t know, almost all my life I’ve started matches and I think I’ve scored quite a few goals that way. But now we have this situation where the coach rotates a lot and, as he said himself, with five substitutions the game has completely changed. We also have many strong players. Like he said today, there are no starters or substitutes, so to speak. I don’t think about that, I just try to stay focused, do what the coach asks of me and help the team as much as I can to achieve results. Then, if I start from the bench or as a starter… of course everyone wants to play, but I respect the coach’s choices and I will try to make it difficult for him.”
