“We Must Show We’re at the Right Level” – Pierre Kalulu Speaks Ahead of Juventus vs Pafos

Start

On the eve of Juventus’ Champions League clash with Pafos, Pierre Kalulu met the media to discuss the team’s mindset, lessons learned from recent matches, and his growing leadership role within the squad. The French defender, focused and candid, outlined the team’s ambitions and the importance of maintaining high standards.

A New Competition, a New Opportunity

Reflecting on the shift of focus after the Napoli match, Kalulu emphasised the team’s determination to respond positively.

“It’s another competition, and I’m eager to do well and show even more that we are at the right level,” he said. “It will be important for us — the test is there, and we’re ready.”

Learning from Every Experience

When asked about what the team learned from recent performances, Kalulu underlined the value of growth through both wins and setbacks.

“After every match, whether positive or negative, you always have to take lessons to move forward,” he explained. “What happened happened, but we talked among ourselves to take the positives and work on what didn’t go well.”

The Return of Bremer

Kalulu also spoke warmly about the return of teammate Gleison Bremer from injury, highlighting his positive influence.

“We’re a united group. When someone is injured, it’s tough for everyone,” Kalulu noted. “His return makes us happy — he brings different energy, more joy, and we’re glad to have him back. He has experience and helps us a lot.”

A Different Juventus

Asked whether this Juventus side feels similar to last season’s, Kalulu offered an honest perspective.

“No, to be honest, it’s not the same as last year,” he replied. “I’ve played in big teams — when you make a mistake, it’s immediately visible. But a season is like that; all teams at European level have ups and downs. At Juve, the seasons may seem longer, but it’s not always the same thing.”

Small Details Make the Difference

Kalulu acknowledged that Juventus must sharpen their attention to detail in order to control key moments better.

“We’re at a level where small details make the difference in how you read the game,” he said. “When those details don’t work in your favour, everything seems darker. We can definitely do better, but I believe those details can go our way — and then everything will look much better.”

Growing into a Leadership Role

When asked about his personal responsibility within the team, Kalulu admitted he feels increasingly like a leader.

“I always try to give my best and lead by example on the pitch every time,” he explained. “By being available and working hard, I try to help the team. Do I feel like a leader? Yes, more and more, because I play and my teammates believe in me.”

The Weight of the Juventus Shirt

Kalulu remained calm under discussion of external pressures, stating he prefers to focus on his own rhythm and mindset.

“I don’t listen much to what people say — no offence,” he smiled. “I don’t feel weighed down by outside analysis. Personally, it’s easier for me; I take matches naturally and live them well.”

What Juventus Still Need to Prove

Looking ahead to what Juventus can still show on the European stage, Kalulu pointed to the team’s untapped potential.

“The truth is, we’re not there yet,” he admitted. “We already have some things and certain qualities, but we need to make them stronger. We must be cleaner in key moments. Every week we work to reach those levels.”
