“We Want to Take a Quality Leap”: Giuntoli Outlines Juventus’ Ambitions for the Future

Start

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli recently offered a candid look into the club’s strategy, ambitions, and the evolving identity of the Bianconeri. Speaking (as quoted by Calciomercato) at the second Telenord-Gianni Di Marzio Awards in Portofino, Giuntoli discussed the importance of hands-on leadership, the impact of coach Igor Tudor, and the club’s transfer market plans aimed at “making a quality leap.”

Building Success: More Than Just Talent

Reflecting on his arrival at Juventus, Giuntoli emphasized that achieving great results requires more than just raw talent. “To achieve great results, you need great application. Talent alone is not enough; it’s important, but application is fundamental,” he explained. He highlighted the value of scouting players in person: “Seeing players live makes a difference because there’s also the person behind the player. Video tells you what kind of footballer he is, but through human interaction, you understand much more. Winning groups are usually made up of great men.”

Champions League Ambitions and Transfer Market Strategy

Juventus’ primary goal remains Champions League qualification, and Giuntoli is clear about the path forward: “We are working hard, and it’s important to take the final step. That was our objective. We’ve changed and rejuvenated the squad a lot. We want to reach the Champions League, and next year, with two or three targeted signings and the return of injured players, we want to build a competitive team.”

He reiterated his vision for the summer transfer window: “From the market, we want two or three additions to make a quality leap.”

The Tudor Effect: A Coach Who Listens

Giuntoli praised current coach Igor Tudor for his unexpected approach: “He has had a major impact. I expected him to be less of a psychologist and more of a sergeant, but instead, he is very attentive in personal conversations, interpreting what happens from a psychological point of view. He knew the environment and is giving us a big hand.”

Facing Criticism and Embracing Youth

Addressing recent criticism, Giuntoli remained steadfast: “I believe that if you play well, it’s easier to win. We have taken a path with young, motivated players who must embrace a strong idea of football, and we hope to achieve great results.”

On Key Players and Injuries

Discussing midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, Giuntoli acknowledged the challenges: “He has missed a lot of matches and had many problems. He is an excellent player but needs to be in good condition.”

Looking Ahead: The Next Coach and Club World Cup

As for the future of the coaching position, Giuntoli outlined the club’s approach: “We’ll finish the league and the Club World Cup, then we’ll sit down and decide calmly. There’s great hunger and a strong desire to reach the Champions League and start strong next year.”

Leadership Philosophy: On the Field and Beyond

Giuntoli also shared his personal philosophy as a leader: “In the end, I like being on the field, confronting myself with the coach. Then there’s talking to agents and the press. It’s nice to be together.”

A Club in Transition, A Vision for the Future

Juventus is navigating a period of significant transition, with Giuntoli at the helm of a project focused on rejuvenation, financial stability, and strategic investment. His leadership is marked by a blend of pragmatism and ambition, aiming to restore the club to its former heights.

As Giuntoli concluded, “We want to make a quality leap.” The coming months—and the summer transfer market—will reveal how Juventus plans to turn this vision into reality.
