Flavio Briatore, a lifelong Juventus supporter and one of Formula 1’s most recognisable figures, has shared his thoughts on the Bianconeri and Ferrari during an interview with Corriere dello Sport (as quoted by Calciomercato).
The Italian entrepreneur spoke candidly about both the past and present of Juventus, offering praise for Andrea Agnelli’s leadership while also commenting on John Elkann’s approach and loyalties.
“John Elkann is born, Briatore is made,” he said. “They are two very different paths – it’s impossible to say which is easier. I believe he loves Juventus. He’s a reserved, perhaps even shy, person, but both Juventus and Ferrari are part of his family’s history. He’s probably more attached to Ferrari and motorsport – that’s a matter of upbringing and personal taste.”
Juventus and Its Changes
Turning to Juventus, Briatore did not hide his concerns about the club’s recent instability.
“Three technical revolutions in three years are not good. Stability is fundamental,” he said. “They chose the wrong people, so deeper analysis is needed. Everyone criticises Andrea Agnelli, but under him, the club achieved exceptional results. In the days of Giraudo and Moggi, we were extremely strong. Back then it was Juve and Milan; today it’s Inter and Napoli.”
Ferrari and Formula 1
Briatore also discussed his relationship with Ferrari and how his career in Formula 1 shaped his view of the iconic team.
“I worked fifteen years with the French – after that, you’re compatible with anyone,” he joked. “Were we ever close to working together? No. In the mid-1990s, when Giraudo was at Juventus, Umberto Agnelli mentioned something, but I was a Benetton partner – it was impossible. Ferrari is too important for Formula 1. It doesn’t need to win at all costs; it just has to be competitive. It lights up the entire system. Its fan base absorbs disappointments with sincere and unbreakable passion.”
When asked what Ferrari needs most, Briatore’s answer was simple:
“The right people. It’s the people who make the product.”
