Yeremay Hernandez Cubas, the dazzling Deportivo La Coruña number 10, has become one of the hottest names on the European transfer market as the summer window approaches. Calciomercato report how at just 22 years old, the winger from the Canary Islands has enjoyed a breakout season, drawing the attention of top clubs across Italy and Europe, including Como, Juventus, and Napoli.
A Meteoric Rise in Galicia
Hernandez’s journey began in Las Palmas, where his talents were quickly recognized. At just eight years old, he joined the academy of his hometown club before being scouted by Real Madrid at 13. Despite shining at La Fabrica, Real Madrid’s famed academy, Hernandez sought a project where he could play a central role. Deportivo La Coruña offered that opportunity, and he seized it, rapidly progressing through their youth ranks and signing his first professional contract at 16.
His senior debut came in December 2021, marked by a goal and an assist in the Copa del Rey. Since then, Hernandez has established himself as a key figure for Deportivo. The 2023/24 season was his true explosion: he scored 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 36 matches, helping the newly promoted side secure a comfortable mid-table finish in Spain’s Segunda División.
A Unique Playing Style
Hernandez stands out for his electric dribbling, averaging five successful take-ons per match-outperforming even some of Europe’s elite like Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé, and Vinicius Jr. He is quick, technically gifted, and fearless in one-on-one situations, often creating numerical advantages for his team. Despite a modest height of 169 cm, he compensates with agility and street football instincts honed in his tough neighbourhood of El Polvorín.
His direct approach and eye for goal set him apart from other dribblers. Unlike some wingers who favor flair over efficiency, Hernandez is decisive in the final third, combining creativity with a keen sense of when to shoot. Club legends and coaches alike describe him as a special player, capable of changing games on his own.
A Transfer Saga in the Making
Hernandez’s performances have not gone unnoticed. Clubs from Spain, England, Germany, and Italy are all tracking his progress. Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Brighton, Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle, and Chelsea have shown interest, with Chelsea making a concrete attempt in January. However, Deportivo managed to keep their star, aided by a contract renewal that runs until 2030 and a release clause now set at €35 million.
Como, under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas, is reportedly ready to meet that clause to make Hernandez the centerpiece of their ambitious project. Juventus, too, is keen, seeing him as a potential replacement for Francisco Conceicao and a player who could add directness and goal threat to their attack. Napoli remains interested, having previously considered him as a successor to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
