Yildiz: “A Dream to Play at the Bernabéu – But No Comparisons with Del Piero”

Kenan Yildiz is preparing for one of the most important nights of his young career — Juventus’ Champions League showdown with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Just two days before the match, the 20-year-old Turkish star shared his thoughts in an interview with UEFA’s official website, reflecting on the emotions of playing on such a stage and the meaning behind wearing Juventus’s iconic number 10 shirt.

When asked about the significance of that number, Yildiz admitted with a smile:

“At first I thought, ‘Oh my God, will I be able to handle the number 10?’ But then I didn’t think too much about it. I simply wanted that number — to shine and enjoy myself. If I’m honest, the number doesn’t play — I do. So I always want to give everything and show what I can do. I hope it’s gone well so far, and I want to keep going like this.”

The young midfielder, often labelled among Europe’s brightest prospects, prefers not to dwell on that reputation.

“Of course, it’s a great motivation,” he said. “But I always focus on myself. I don’t like comparisons. I am who I am, not similar to anyone else. That’s why I only look at myself.”

Ahead of his first-ever appearance against Real Madrid, Yildiz described the magnitude of the occasion:

“Yes, it’s fantastic. Every child dreams of playing in that stadium. I think it’s one of the most beautiful in the world, and to play there now feels like a dream come true. Facing such a club in the Champions League is simply incredible. I hope everything goes well, and I want to play a great match.”

The conversation inevitably turned to Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, whose unforgettable brace at the Bernabéu remains etched in club history.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Yildiz admitted. “The number 10 shirt is every child’s dream, and now I wear it on my shoulders for a club like Juventus. I always say I don’t like comparisons between me and him. He’s a legend, his career is over, and I’m just at the beginning. I want to build my own story. But yes, he’s someone I’ve always admired, and now I’m proud to wear his number at this club.”
