Canada national team coach Jesse Marsch has shed light on Jonathan David’s mindset and future ambitions, revealing that the striker is fully committed to Juventus and feeling at home in Turin.
David, fresh off an impressive performance and goal against Sassuolo, seems to have found his rhythm under Luciano Spalletti. According to Marsch, who knows the forward well, there was never any doubt about his resilience or determination to succeed in black and white.
“David Told Me He Wants to Stay”
Marsch explained that David’s character and focus have impressed him from the start. “I know Jonathan very well and I was never worried after the missed penalty against Lecce or the criticism that followed — it can happen to anyone,” said the coach. “I saw him play live in Pisa, and we speak often. I was sure his goal would come soon, and I wasn’t surprised by the warmth of his teammates and Spalletti after he scored.”
The Canadian coach went on to reveal David’s clear intentions: “Juventus is a great club, and Jonathan shows the mentality needed to belong at that level. He’s happy in Turin and even during difficult moments, he always told me he wants to stay at Juventus.”
“Only Haaland Is Better”
Marsch, who has worked with some of Europe’s best young forwards, spoke glowingly of David’s quality. “Now that he’s adapted, Jonathan won’t stop scoring. I’ve said it before — after Erling Haaland, he’s the best striker I’ve coached. Haaland is a phenomenon, but Jonathan has always had an incredible instinct for goal. Even in a league like Serie A, where space is limited, he’ll keep delivering.”
He also compared David’s finishing ability to players like Christopher Nkunku, another of his former protégés. “Nkunku is less of a pure goalscorer but has great technique. I’m happy to see him doing well at Milan.”
“Spalletti Is Bringing Out His Best”
Finally, Marsch praised Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti for the way he has managed the Canadian forward. “Spalletti is a top coach. The next time I’m in Italy, I’d love to visit the Juventus training ground and watch a session. At big clubs, competition is essential — and Spalletti is really getting the best out of Jonathan and the team as a whole.”
