Juventus are set to reignite their pursuit of Oscar Mingueza as they look to strengthen the wide areas of Luciano Spalletti’s squad. The Spanish defender, currently at Celta Vigo, remains high on the Bianconeri’s transfer shortlist, and a renewed effort to bring him to Turin is taking shape.
Tuttosport (as quoted by IlBianconero) report that the club’s first approach for Mingueza, whose contract with Celta expires in six months, came only a few days ago. Having already reached a preliminary understanding with the player—keen to join immediately and compete for a starting spot alongside Pierre Kalulu and Andrea Cambiaso—Juventus submitted an initial bid worth around €3 million.
Celta Vigo’s Stance
Celta, however, have resisted that proposal. The main obstacle lies in a clause agreed with Barcelona three years ago, giving the Catalan club a 50 per cent share of any future resale. This condition has complicated Celta’s negotiations, as they would prefer to avoid losing Mingueza on a free transfer in June. To part ways with him now, the Spanish side are said to be seeking closer to €7 million.
Juve Prepare a New Offer
Despite the gap between the two clubs, Juventus are ready to return with an improved bid. The Turin hierarchy aim to edge closer to Celta’s valuation without exceeding the €4 million mark. The Bianconeri’s confidence is growing, especially given Mingueza’s strong interest in making the switch to Serie A this month.
Spalletti Gives His Approval
According to reports from within the club, Luciano Spalletti has personally approved the move. The Juventus coach views Mingueza as a versatile and intelligent defender capable of adapting to multiple systems. At Celta, the 26-year-old has performed effectively both as a centre-back in a four-man defence and as the right-sided defender in a back three, though it is on the flanks where he demonstrates his full potential.
