Sunderland and Nottingham Forest Eye Khephren Thuram as Juventus Chase €100 Million in Capital Gains

Khephren Thuram’s future at Juventus is far from certain — and for reasons that have little to do with his ability. As new chief executive Giovanni Carnevali takes full control at the Continassa, familiarising himself with the club’s accounts and the terms of the agreement that must be reached with UEFA over Financial Fair Play, Juventus face the considerable task of generating around €100 million in capital gains before 30 June 2027. In that context, every significant asset in the squad must be assessed — and Thuram, who attracts considerable market interest, is firmly part of that conversation.

The Suitors Are Already Circling

Sunderland and Nottingham Forest — both recently promoted and ambitious Premier League clubs — have already made enquiries about the French midfielder, whose situation at Juventus is driven more by financial necessity than any dissatisfaction with his performances. The Marinakis ownership group, which controls Nottingham Forest, has an existing relationship with the Juventus ecosystem through Matteo Tognozzi — the sporting director candidate currently being pursued by the bianconeri from Rio Ave, another club within the same ownership structure. That connection could yet prove relevant.

The Financial Picture

Thuram is one of a number of players — alongside Kenan Yildiz, who has been declared untouchable — whose situations will be evaluated carefully as Carnevali maps out the club’s financial priorities for the summer. Selling well is the foundation of everything Juventus need to do this window, and Thuram’s value on the open market makes him one of the more attractive assets available.

The Frattesi Connection

The Thuram story also has a direct bearing on the ongoing Davide Frattesi negotiations. Should Thuram depart and Frattesi arrive — whether in a swap involving Cambiaso or as a standalone deal — Juventus would be replacing one French midfielder with an Italian international whose profile better suits both Spalletti’s tactical demands and Carnevali’s stated preference for Italian football intelligence within the squad. The pieces are beginning to fit together — but only if the financial mathematics can be made to work first.
