Andrea Cambiaso: “Our Worst Match Under Spalletti – Nothing Worked”

Andrea Cambiaso did not hold back after Juventus’ disappointing defeat to Como, offering a frank and self-critical analysis of the team’s performance in his post-match interview with Sky. The full-back admitted that the Bianconeri produced their worst showing since Luciano Spalletti took charge, acknowledging that both sides of the game simply fell apart.

“It was without doubt the worst performance since the coach arrived,” Cambiaso said. “Unfortunately today nothing worked – neither in attack nor in defence – and we need to analyse what happened. Tomorrow we’ll look at it calmly and clearly to see how we can improve.”

When asked what caused such difficulties, he admitted even he struggled to find an explanation. “It’s really hard to say, because I honestly don’t know. Especially right after the match, it’s complicated to analyse things properly. We’ll have to review it tomorrow. Compared to other games, today was a really, really poor performance.”

“We Were Positioned Poorly”

The defender went on to reflect on Juventus’ tactical and structural issues, rejecting the idea that fear or fatigue played the main role.

“It’s easy to say now, after conceding 15 goals in five matches, that we’ve lost confidence or that we’re playing with fear,” he said. “But in my opinion we were too stretched, the distances between us were excessive both in attack and in defence. We never managed to find the right passes with proper timing or intensity. At the back, we couldn’t close down at the right moments either. That was the biggest difficulty today. From the pitch it was hard to realise it, but I’d like to re-watch the game and analyse it with the coach tomorrow. I don’t think it’s a mental or psychological issue – it was mainly about positioning and the distances between departments. Today we were set up badly on the pitch, and that’s clearly our fault.”

Cambiaso dismissed the idea that physical fatigue was to blame, pointing instead to mental sharpness and tactical cohesion.

“In my view, it’s not a fitness problem. The opponents have played too, even after us, so it can’t just be that. It’s probably more of a mental issue, because today we were positioned badly: we could never find the right distances to push forward effectively, and we were often too spread out. Few chances, too much haste, too many misplaced passes. Tomorrow we’ll analyse everything calmly with the coach, because right after a match it’s easy to get carried away by emotion. Even after going 1–0 down, we were too hasty and not clear-headed enough.”
