Cambiaso: “Our Margin for Error Is Almost Zero” – Juventus Braced for Arctic Test in Bodo

Start

Andrea Cambiaso issued a stark warning ahead of Juventus’ freezing trip to Norway, insisting that the team’s “margin for error is almost zero” as they look for their first Champions League win of the season away to Bodo/Glimt.

The Bianconeri arrive in Scandinavia after three consecutive draws between Serie A and Europe and know they must finally turn performances into three points.

Juventus’ situation and the trip to Bodo

Juventus travel to face Bodo/Glimt in Matchday Five of the League Phase still without a victory in this Champions League campaign. So far they have collected just three points, coming from spectacular draws against Borussia Dortmund (4–4), Villarreal (2–2) and Sporting (1–1), plus a defeat at the Bernabéu against Real Madrid.

The Turin side, also held recently by Torino and Fiorentina in Serie A, now visit a Bodo/Glimt team that has itself struggled for European wins but remains dangerous, especially at home in Arctic conditions. The match is therefore seen inside the Juventus camp as a turning point in their European path.

First feelings on the pitch

Before the main press conference, Cambiaso spoke to television and then met the journalists to describe his first impressions of the synthetic surface and the unique environment in Norway.

“Feelings about the pitch? It’s something different with different sensations, but we have to be ready. It will be very tough, but we must make sure we are ready.”

The full‑back underlined that the context will be unlike anything Juventus face regularly in Serie A, but stressed that the team must adapt quickly if they are to leave with a result.

Belief in Spalletti and a zero‑error margin

Cambiaso then highlighted how closely the squad is following Luciano Spalletti’s guidance, revealing a conversation with national‑team goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario that confirmed just how demanding the challenge in Bodo will be.

“I believe in every word from Spalletti. I spoke with Vicario on national team duty and he confirmed to me that it will be a great experience but a hard one. We will have to make sure we are ready. Our margin for error is almost zero. We need to take points and win this match.”

The defender made clear that, after too many draws, Juventus can no longer afford lapses in concentration or wasted chances if they want to keep their Champions League ambitions alive.

Recent performances and Spalletti’s work

Looking back at Juventus’ performances, Cambiaso defended much of the team’s recent form while acknowledging that the last outing did not meet their usual standards.

“Apart from the last game, which wasn’t played at the usual level, the others were good matches. Tomorrow will be a strange and difficult match. What has changed since Spalletti arrived? He keeps telling us to keep working. That is the only solution; above all we have to improve from a technical point of view.”

He stressed that Spalletti’s main message has been to insist on daily work and technical improvement rather than chasing shortcuts, something the squad has embraced despite the pressure.

The Florence drop‑off and coaching changes

Cambiaso was also asked why Juventus’ approach dropped in the second half away to Fiorentina, a match that drew criticism for the team’s lack of intensity and clarity.

“Why? I can’t answer, because in two years too many things have changed with Allegri, Thiago Motta, Tudor and Spalletti. I can’t answer. Then in Florence we have already gone over it with the coach. Tomorrow will be very difficult.”

The defender pointed to the rapid succession of coaches as a factor that makes it hard to give a simple explanation, but underlined that the group has already analysed that performance with Spalletti and is focused on responding in Bodo.

Intensity, climate and synthetic pitch

A major topic in the build‑up is Bodo/Glimt’s intensity, combined with the cold and the artificial surface at Aspmyra Stadion.

“The problem could be the climate and the pitch. We have to make up for that somehow. Then with the national team they won both times, but we’ll see tomorrow: we have to prepare as well as possible.”

Cambiaso then detailed how the extreme conditions can influence players’ bodies and sensations during the game, underlining how unusual it is for him personally.

“The difference will be on a physical level, because right now it’s minus six and your breathing will change, the strength in your legs, the boots… I haven’t played on an artificial surface since I was 17: that will be the biggest difference.”

Pressure to win and Spalletti’s message

The Juventus dressing room is fully aware of the pressure to finally deliver a win, but Cambiaso revealed a powerful speech from Spalletti before the match in Florence that continues to resonate in the group.

“Before Florence, the coach gave us a very beautiful talk. He spoke about duty that chains you, but will that sets you free. In Florence we were disappointed because we put in a low‑level performance.”

The wing‑back admitted that the players felt genuine regret after that game and stressed that the will to react, more than the obligation, must drive Juventus in Norway.

Dealing with the cold and external advice

Within the squad, the freezing temperatures in Bodo have been discussed, but Cambiaso explained that the group has tried to treat the subject with some lightness to avoid creating additional psychological weight.

“We knew about the cold and we took it with a bit of humour.”

Finally, he confirmed that he has spoken with other players who have experience on similar pitches and in similar climates, particularly Vicario, to better understand the demands they will face.

“I spoke with Vicario, he explained to me the difference the pitch and the intensity make. It was a positive discussion.”
