Comolli and Chiellini Suspended After Inter–Juventus Clash

The fallout from Inter–Juventus continues, as the sporting judge Gerardo Mastrandrea has announced disciplinary measures following the heated scenes at San Siro. Juventus executives Damien Comolli and Giorgio Chiellini have both been suspended for their conduct during the half-time interval, while Pierre Kalulu’s red card has also been confirmed.

Comolli, Juventus’ Chief Executive Officer, has been suspended until 31 March and fined €15,000 for what the official report described as “aggressive and gravely intimidating behaviour” towards referee Federico La Penna. The incident reportedly occurred in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms, where Comolli attempted to make physical contact with the match official—an act prevented by the intervention of Juventus staff, including the team’s coach. The report also notes that Comolli used seriously insulting language towards the referee and continued his protests outside the officials’ changing area.

Chiellini, Juventus’ Director of Football Strategy, received a sporting ban until 27 February for what was deemed a “heated and disrespectful” confrontation with La Penna. The former defender is said to have continued his protests in the area outside the referees’ room, directing offensive remarks towards the match officials—a behaviour later confirmed by one of the assistant referees.

The row stemmed from the controversial dismissal of Pierre Kalulu just before half-time, a decision that sparked outrage on the Juventus bench. As the teams made their way down the tunnel, several club directors—including Comolli, Chiellini, and Technical Director François Modesto—were seen protesting vehemently with the referee over the call.

Kalulu’s suspension has also been ratified. The defender will miss the next Serie A fixture after receiving two yellow cards for unsporting behaviour against an opponent.
