Comolli: “We Have Achieved Our Goals, We Are Stronger. Row with PSG? A Lie”

Juventus general director Damien Comolli spoke ahead of the official presentation of new signings Lois Openda and Edon Zhegrova, reflecting on the club’s transfer window and addressing recent rumours.

“Before hearing from Edon and Lois, I would like to begin with a brief introduction and some comments on the transfer market,” Comolli began. “I want to thank the players who have left us, for everything they brought to the club. We wish them all the best. We tried to find the right balance between our financial position, especially with regard to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play, and the need to build a competitive squad to strengthen. I believe we managed to do that, to find the right balance.”

One of the main strategic objectives, the director explained, was to keep Juventus’ core intact:

“One of the important goals was to keep the backbone of the team. We have a very competitive squad and we were not comfortable selling certain players who will play a big role in the future. We decided which players we wanted to keep on this basis.”

Comolli then turned his attention to the new arrivals.

“We are excited about Edon and Lois. I admired Edon’s creativity when I was at Toulouse, his ability to make things happen, and that was exactly what we were looking for. As for Lois, his finishing skills and his ability to start moves from different positions on the pitch are qualities we really value.”

The signings, however, came later in the window than initially expected.

“It was not our intention to complete these deals on the last day. We were waiting to see what would happen with Nico at Atlético, and that is why we had to move late. Both players were very patient and committed. With Lois, we had been in talks for weeks before finalising in the last hours. There were several factors to consider, but we reached the conclusion that his style of play was ideal for us, which made him the right candidate.”

Comolli also dismissed recent speculation surrounding his relationship with Paris Saint-Germain.

“I read articles about discussions with the PSG president. It is false, lies. Someone tried to manipulate a situation that does not exist. I have always supported the big clubs, I have always had excellent relationships, and the same applies to PSG.”

Reflecting on the overall market, Comolli expressed full satisfaction.

“We closed the transfer window successfully, we feel stronger. We believe we can be competitive and push forward with results. We are also one of the youngest squads in Serie A, and we did this intentionally. I am really satisfied with how we conducted the transfer market. I thank the ownership for their commitment during the window, for their presence, effort and availability. I have always been encouraged to go further and achieve our goals. They have shown great dedication to the club.”
