Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has shared his thoughts on the Bianconeri’s current form under Luciano Spalletti, offering praise for the manager’s work while also commenting on Weston McKennie, the Champions League prospects, and the team’s growing confidence.
Speaking at an event celebrating a partnership between Haier and Serie A, the former Juve captain said:
“ They’ve all done really well — Spalletti first and foremost — in giving the team a real jolt, even if there have been a few understandable setbacks along the way.”
Del Piero went on to highlight how Juventus have rediscovered clarity and confidence in their football:
“ Today the team has shown a clear idea of how it wants to approach matches. Everything seems to be going in the right direction. Of course, we keep our fingers crossed, but despite the difficulties, they’ve come through very well.”
On McKennie
Turning to midfielder Weston McKennie, Del Piero expressed admiration for the American’s versatility:
“ He’s played in several positions, showing great flexibility — something Spalletti certainly appreciates. He’s already scored and assisted plenty in the past, and the fact that he’s continuing to perform like this is a great sign for Juventus.”
On the Champions League and Galatasaray
Del Piero urged patience and a measured approach to European ambitions:
“ They should take things one step at a time. This isn’t the year — especially with a change of coach — to say ‘we’ll reach the final.’ I believe Spalletti and the team are trying to build an identity that allows them to compete with anyone, which means aiming to win every match regardless of the opponent.”
Speaking about the upcoming clash with Galatasaray, he added confidently:
“ They have great chances of going through, considering their current form, the second leg at home, and the strong sense of belief around the squad.”
On the Scudetto Race
Del Piero did not rule out the possibility of Juventus returning to the Serie A title race:
“ Why not? There’s renewed confidence and solidity. I don’t know if the Scudetto is their main target, but there are still plenty of matches left. You always have to believe a little, even if other sides appear more consistent right now. Juventus started their journey later than some — and who knows what could happen?”
On Yildiz
Finally, Del Piero praised young star Kenan Yildiz for his progress while advising against drawing early comparisons:
“ Yildiz? I’ve always avoided comparisons. He’s developing well and, match by match, is showing that he can take responsibility even in big games. He’s clearly improving and learning from the more experienced players — just as I did when I was young and people tried to compare me to one champion or another. The truth is that, beyond what he learns from others, he needs to build his own path — to carve out his own space in the football world.”
