Sky Calcio Club recently analysed Juventus’ current situation and their season so far. The Bianconeri have been eliminated from the Champions League and Coppa Italia, and currently sit fifth in the league, though they could return to fourth place with a win against Verona tonight.
Luca Marchegiani commented on Juventus’ season, stating, “Looking at the prospects, fourth place is the minimum. If they don’t achieve it, it would be a failed season considering their poor performance in the cups. There’s always the argument that it’s the first year, occasionally showing signs of improvement that aren’t confirmed in the next match. In my opinion, it’s not a particularly positive season, and being six points from the top of the table isn’t insignificant for a team that started with ambitions, even if they weren’t considered frontrunners.”
Paolo Di Canio offered a more critical perspective: “Would failing to qualify for the Champions League be a failure? Absolutely. If they manage to qualify, it somewhat salvages the season. We’ve seen improvements in terms of compactness and attitude, and the group has always been healthy. However, none of the new arrivals have performed anywhere near expectations. Overvalued? A bit, yes. They’re not bad players, but they haven’t delivered in this context. Even Thuram has only performed in bursts. The best performers have been Locatelli and Gatti, at least in terms of spirit, bringing a Juventus attitude to the field. If they finish fourth with this squad, they won’t have achieved it with a clear identity.”
Regarding Thiago Motta’s management and frequent lineup changes, Di Canio added, “This is a management style that not even Guardiola’s City has been able to afford in recent years. From the beginning, you started changing midfielders, never working consistently on the field due to cup commitments.”
