Former Juventus defender Patrice Evra has spoken frankly about the club’s current situation, expressing sympathy for Igor Tudor and criticising what he sees as a distracted new generation of footballers.
Speaking on his social media channels, Evra admitted to feeling emotional each time he returns to Turin, where he remains a popular figure among Juventus supporters. “I’m always moved when I come back to Turin,” he said. “Many fans have asked me to return to the club as a coach or a director. I’ve earned all my coaching badges, but I won’t go back into football because I have another life now, and I’d have to sacrifice everything for it.”
Turning his attention to Igor Tudor’s recent dismissal, the Frenchman showed support for the Croatian coach while also pointing a finger at the dressing room. “I feel sorry for him,” Evra noted. “When a coach is sacked, it means the players haven’t done enough. They’ll know they’ve let him down — it happened to me at Manchester United when Moyes was fired, and it was only right we felt bad about it.”
Evra then reflected on what he believes is a growing cultural shift in the game. “This is a new generation — the TikTok generation. Players now think about music, fashion, and social media. They have too many distractions. The world has changed.”
Reminiscing about his time at Juventus, Evra recalled a very different atmosphere under Andrea Agnelli’s presidency. “I remember when we played at Villar Perosa — the pitch was terrible, but it didn’t matter. We were there breathing in the history of Juventus. The president and Paratici were always close to us. When you play for Juve, you have to sacrifice everything, even your family.”
Evra concluded with a hint that his story in football may not be finished just yet. “One day, I’ll come back to the game,” he said with a smile.
