Legendary former coach Fabio Capello has delivered a scathing assessment of AC Milan and Juventus’ current trajectories, contrasting their struggles with Inter Milan’s cohesive project under Simone Inzaghi. Speaking at the Il Foglio a San Siro event, Capello emphasized the critical role of strong club leadership in achieving success.
“Milan and Juventus Have No Clear Vision”
Capello pulled no punches in criticizing the Rossoneri and Bianconeri:
“At Milan and Juventus, there’s no real club behind them – just executives without clear ideas. There’s no unified vision. The most important choice is the players: if you can’t select those who are worthy of wearing these historic shirts, it means you’re failing at a personal level before a technical one.”*
He stressed the disconnect between these clubs and their fanbases, stating: *”Supporters want to see passion and commitment to the jersey – something we haven’t seen at Juve or Milan recently.”
Praise for Inter’s Structure
In stark contrast, Capello hailed Inter’s management for creating a stable environment:
“Inzaghi is being guided exceptionally well by the club. Behind him, there are directors who understand the team they’re building – something missing at Milan and Juventus.”
Highlighting Inter’s recent Champions League victory over Bayern Munich, he added:
“Their win made me very happy because I support Italian teams in Europe, even as a Milan man. They played a perfect game and deserved the result. Their midfield is outstanding – when Bayern neutralized Çalhanoğlu, Barella and Mkhitaryan stepped up. This is a team that knows its identity, handles pressure brilliantly, and is as dangerous on the counter as Real Madrid or Barcelona.”
Treble Ambitions
While acknowledging the difficulty of replicating Inter’s 2010 treble, Capello expressed hope:
“Another treble? I wish it for Italian football, but it’s challenging. Four trophies, including the Club World Cup, would be extraordinary. But this Inter squad has the mentality and direction. Inzaghi has grown tactically and even in his communication – he’s a coach transformed.”
