Fabio Capello on Juventus: “Tudor Pays for All, Spalletti Is a Guarantee”

Start

Few know Juventus better than Fabio Capello. The former manager, speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, shared his thoughts on Igor Tudor’s dismissal, the club’s current struggles, and the potential appointment of Luciano Spalletti as the new head coach.

According to Capello, Tudor’s sacking was inevitable given Juventus’s poor form:

“Tudor is paying for everyone. Eight matches without a win are too many for a club like Juventus, but the responsibility does not lie solely with the manager. The original mistake was the club’s half-hearted confidence in him. Last summer, they looked for several coaches before eventually confirming Igor and renewing his contract. Players can sense uncertainty and take advantage of such situations. The real question is: did Tudor build this team, or did someone else?”

Capello also criticised the club’s recent transfer strategy and the performance of their forwards:

“With Bremer, the team was holding on; without him, it collapsed. Igor probably suffered because of a transfer market unworthy of Juventus. A coach must get the best from his forwards; if they’re not scoring, he must ask why. Some chances have been missed, but creating opportunities has been the real problem in recent matches.”

Turning to the future, Capello sees Spalletti as an ideal fit:

“Spalletti is a coach of great value and experience. He has led major clubs and knows how to win. After the disappointment with Italy, he’ll be eager to bounce back. What better way to start again than with a club as prestigious as Juventus? He has the charisma to lift the Bianconeri in a difficult moment. Paradoxically, the league table still offers some encouragement — Juventus are only six points behind leaders Napoli and Roma.”

Asked about other potential candidates, Capello acknowledged Raffaele Palladino’s progress but maintained that the Juventus job requires another level:

“Palladino has done well with Monza and Fiorentina, but Juventus is on a different scale.”

Finally, Capello stressed the importance of rebuilding around the club’s young talents and finding consistency in attack:

“They should start again with Yildiz and by rediscovering goals from their strikers. Juventus lack superstars like Yamal who can score out of nothing — even Haaland needs service. The key lies in the midfield creating chances and providing quality balls for Vlahovic, David and Openda to finish.”
