Garlando: “Thiago Motta Believes He Knows Everything Already, Fabregas Sets an Example”

Luigi Garlando, a prominent journalist for La Gazzetta dello Sport, has drawn a stark comparison between Juventus manager Thiago Motta and Como’s Cesc Fabregas, both in their debut seasons as coaches in Serie A. Garlando’s observations highlight a significant difference in approach and attitude between the two former midfielders.

Speaking about Fabregas, Garlando noted, “After every match, Fabregas seeks out the opposing coach and asks them questions, seeking advice… Last year, he called Pioli and said, ‘Hello, let me introduce myself. Would you mind if I invited you to dinner because I need to ask you some things, can you give me some advice?'”

In contrast, Garlando’s assessment of Motta is less flattering. “On the other hand, there’s Thiago, who had a good season last year and already believes he knows everything. He doesn’t admit to errors even when they’re obvious,” Garlando remarked. He went on to emphasize the difference in humility and openness to learning between the two coaches.

Garlando suggests that Motta’s challenging season with Juventus could serve as a learning experience. “Maybe by hitting obstacles like he has this season with Juventus, Thiago can grow because he is talented. However, in my opinion, he entered with the wrong attitude, even towards the players. There are reports filtering from the dressing room of players who can’t stand him,” Garlando explained.

The journalist believes Motta may have overestimated himself, stating, “He misjudged his approach, perhaps he felt too much, loved himself too much.” This stands in stark contrast to Fabregas, who, despite his illustrious playing career, has approached his new role with humility.

“Fabregas, who has won everything as a player, has entered this new profession with humility,” Garlando concluded, highlighting the former Barcelona and Chelsea star’s approach as an example for new coaches to follow.
