Weston McKennie has just wrapped up one of his most impressive seasons in a Juventus shirt, and few are prouder than his father, John McKennie. In an exclusive interview with TuttoJuve journalist Mirko Di Natale, John shared his thoughts on Weston’s performances, his future with Juventus, and the excitement of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
A Season of Commitment and Growth
Reflecting on Weston’s campaign, which saw him make 44 appearances and score 5 goals, John McKennie highlighted his son’s relentless work ethic and adaptability. “It was a very good season. What I loved most about Weston was his willingness to always give his all on the pitch, match after match. As always, he gives everything and does whatever is asked of him,” John said.
Weston’s versatility has been a key asset for Juventus this year. After winning over coach Thiago Motta, he also impressed new manager Igor Tudor. When asked how Weston managed to do this, John explained, “He simply understood what the new coach was asking from him.”
Looking Ahead to the Club World Cup
With Juventus set to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, the McKennie family is filled with anticipation. “I am always happy for him, and it’s fantastic that he can compete with top-level talents. Even more so because it will take place in the United States,” John shared.
When asked if he plans to attend the tournament, John replied, “I will try to attend at least one of his matches. I’ll do my best.”
The Question of Renewal
As speculation swirls about a contract renewal that could keep Weston at Juventus until 2028, John expressed his support for whatever decision his son makes. “Yes, I would be happy if he stayed at Juventus, but in the end, it’s his decision, and he would have the support of his family.”
