Jonathan David is preparing for his first Derby d’Italia in the black and white of Juventus. The Canadian striker, who arrived this past summer, spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his early months in Turin, his ambitions, and his growing connection with teammates such as Dusan Vlahovic and Kenan Yildiz. He also revealed there had been brief contact with Inter before he joined Juve.
Contact with Inter?
“Not that close. There were contacts and conversations with my agent, but nothing in-depth. I am very happy at Juventus.”
First months at Juventus
“I signed knowing I was joining a European giant, but being inside you realise even more the dimension of the club. I haven’t even managed to visit the museum yet. The players, the fans… At Juventus, everything is big and everything must be done at the top.
I was particularly struck by Locatelli, especially his ability with passing and his control of the tempo of the match.”
Partnership with Vlahovic
“Yes, it’s possible. But these are decisions that belong to the coach, it’s more a question for Tudor. I am ready for any solution and I enjoy playing in any way. Dusan and I push each other on the pitch because we both want the best for the team.”
Attacking competition
“It’s a positive thing for a strong team like Juventus. The more players there are, the more quality solutions we have, and that is better for the team.”
Zhegrova reunion
“I shared several seasons with him. Edon is an incredible player, with an exceptional left foot and great dribbling skills: he’s an excellent signing. At Lille we always had a good relationship, on and off the pitch. There is a strong connection between us, and this will be an advantage now at Juventus.”
On Yildiz
“Yildiz can be our Yamal? Of course. Kenan is young and has great qualities. If he continues like this, he has everything to become a top, top, top player. My first Serie A goal with Juventus came against Parma from a Yildiz assist. It’s really beautiful and fun to play with him.”
Scudetto ambition
“We are only at the beginning of the season. We want to win every match, and then later we’ll see where we are in the standings.”
