Juan Cabal’s Road to Recovery: How the Juventus Defender is Doing and When He’ll Return

For Juan Cabal, the past months have been a test of character and resilience. The Colombian defender, who joined Juventus with high hopes, has faced a challenging period marked by injury and recovery. Yet, through it all, his determination and positive spirit have shone through, offering hope to both himself and the fans eagerly awaiting his return.

A Smile Amidst the Struggle

Since the winter transfer window in January, Cabal has been a familiar face at the JMedical centre in Turin. While fans gathered in anticipation of new signings, Cabal was there for a different reason: the early stages of a long rehabilitation journey. Despite the fatigue and disappointment etched on his face, Cabal never failed to greet supporters with a smile, pose for photos, or sign autographs. His gratitude and hope were evident, even as he carried the heavy burden of injury.

The Setback with Colombia

Rewind to November 2024, and Cabal’s story takes a painful turn. Called up to represent Colombia for matches against Uruguay and Ecuador, he boarded the plane full of excitement, eager to build on a promising start with Juventus. In his first months in Turin, Cabal had made nine appearances, provided an assist, and earned the trust of both coach Thiago Motta and the fans.

But during his first training session with the national team, disaster struck. Cabal suffered a serious injury: a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. The news was confirmed on November 14, and he soon underwent surgery. In a heartfelt message to fans, Cabal shared a photo on crutches and wrote, “Today begins a new journey in my life: to recover so I can give 100% again.”

Seven Months Later: Progress and Patience

Now, seven months after that fateful day, Cabal’s recovery is progressing well. The most difficult phase is behind him, but the journey isn’t over yet. He’s currently in a crucial stage of rehabilitation—a steady, careful climb rather than a steep ascent. The recovery plan is on track, with no setbacks or delays.

While teammate Bremer, who was injured a month earlier, has already re-joined the squad during their US tour, Cabal has remained in Turin. He continues to work daily at Continassa, under the watchful eyes of the Juventus medical staff.

Looking Ahead: A Return in Sight

Caution remains the guiding principle. There is no rush, no risk-taking that could jeopardize his progress. The goal is clear: to gradually rejoin group training in time for the summer training camp in Herzogenaurach and the pre-season preparations. However, this will only happen if Cabal is fully ready, both physically and mentally.

With Igor Tudor now at the helm as Juventus’ new manager, plans for the defensive lineup are taking shape—and Cabal is very much in the picture. Whether he’s ready by August or needs a bit more time, his versatility and energy—able to play as a left-sided canter-back or as a full-back—make him a valuable asset for the new Juventus.
