Former Juventus midfielder Vladimir Jugovic has shared his thoughts on the current state of the club, particularly focusing on the coaching situation and recent performances. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Jugovic expressed his concern over the team’s recent form and offered his perspective on potential managerial changes.
Reflecting on his time at Juventus, Jugovic said, “In my day, we took an away draw badly. For Marcello Lippi, a draw was enough to feel under pressure. I can’t imagine what would have happened with two consecutive defeats and seven goals conceded; it’s not Juventus-like. It wasn’t in the past, and it should never be.”
Addressing the current situation under Thiago Motta, Jugovic commented, “For a team like Juventus, I think it’s difficult to lose two consecutive games against Atalanta and Fiorentina in that manner. Thiago Motta is the coach and will have his responsibilities, but in these moments, everyone is at fault. Results are the aspect that weighs and counts the most at Juventus.”
Jugovic then discussed potential coaching options, stating, “Antonio Conte is a guarantee. As a player, he was a winner in our Juventus, and as a coach, he has won trophies everywhere. Conte knows Turin and the Bianconeri environment, where he was a protagonist both on the field and on the bench.”
He also expressed admiration for Gian Piero Gasperini, saying, “I have a soft spot for Gasperini. At Atalanta, he has built something extraordinary, proving to be a top coach. Gasp grew up at Juventus and coached the youth teams; he certainly deserves a chance.”
Regarding the club’s recent investments and expectations, Jugovic remarked, “After over 200 million euros spent on the market, it was normal to expect something more than just Champions League qualification, right? Big revolution and… big disappointment. Fourth place is fundamental because a club like Juventus must be in the Champions League, but history is clear: in Turin, you play to win and lift trophies, not for placements.”
Finally, touching on the Dusan Vlahovic situation, Jugovic cryptically stated, “The issue is not just technical, and everyone knows it.” He also offered a controversial opinion on young talent Kenan Yildiz, saying, “For 70-80 million euros, I would sell Yildiz. Juventus in the past has monetized well with Vieri and even a superstar like Zidane.”
