Talks around the futures of Weston McKennie and Bryan Cristante are beginning to heat up, with both Juventus and Roma monitoring each other’s midfield situations ahead of potential summer moves.
Tuttosport report that the 31-year-old Cristante remains under contract with Roma until 2027, but a renewal currently appears unlikely. The Giallorossi are keen to rejuvenate their midfield and reduce the overall wage bill, while the player himself knows this could be one of the last major decisions of his career. Juventus, meanwhile, are believed to view him as a valuable opportunity — a midfielder with experience, leadership, and flexibility, qualities that are not abundant in Massimiliano Allegri’s current squad.
On the other side, Weston McKennie’s future in Turin looks increasingly uncertain. Unless club director Damien Comolli agrees to finalise the contract proposal prepared by Cristiano Giuntoli — estimated at around €3.6 million per year plus bonuses until 2029 — the American will be free to negotiate with other clubs in a matter of weeks. The only point left for discussion would then be the agent commissions.
McKennie, 27, is attracting plenty of interest. Alongside the inevitable suitors from Major League Soccer, there are concrete enquiries from Milan and Roma. Both Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini are admirers of the US international’s versatility, having appreciated his ability to adapt across multiple midfield and attacking positions.
With Juventus and Roma set to face each other this weekend at the Allianz Stadium, all eyes will naturally be on the midfield battle — and perhaps on two players who could find themselves swapping shirts as early as next summer.
