Lloyd Kelly was today’s guest for an extended conversation at the Juventus Creator Lab studios, taking part in Small Talk, the club’s official podcast. The English defender spoke candidly about his unexpected move to Turin and his early highlights in the black-and-white shirt.
The Call from Juventus
“To be honest, I didn’t expect it,” Kelly admitted. “At that time, even though I wasn’t playing much at Newcastle, I still felt like one of the senior players in the group and an important part of the team. Then my agent called me and simply asked: ‘Would you fancy moving to Juventus?’
It took me about ten seconds to understand what he meant, and then I said yes. Let’s go. Even if the door had only been slightly open, I would have said: ‘Let’s push it to open properly.’ Luckily, it actually happened.”
The Goal Against Borussia Dortmund: The Commentary
“Thirty seconds left. The ball goes wide to Dušan, Dušan cuts inside and crosses… Kelly! What a goal! Incredible. A stunning strike. A crazy shot from Kelly. Brilliant! The whole stadium erupts with joy!”
Who Told Him to Go Forward
“The coach passed the message to Locatelli, and Locatelli told me,” Kelly recalled. “I had already pushed up earlier, but then went back because they had broken away on the counter. Then the ball came back into play and I had to decide whether to go again or stay put. In the end, it turned out to be the right choice.”
