McKennie’s Juventus Renewal on Hold: “Final Approval from Ownership Still Missing”

Start

The anticipated contract renewal of Weston McKennie with Juventus has hit an unexpected roadblock. While a new deal seemed all but signed, the process has now stalled, leaving the American midfielder’s future in Turin uncertain.

Agreement Reached, But No Green Light from Ownership

In recent weeks, Juventus and McKennie’s representatives reached a verbal agreement to extend his contract until 2028. The negotiations covered all the major points, including salary and agent commissions, with both sides reportedly satisfied with the terms.

However, according (as quoted by IlBianconero) to journalist Matteo Moretto, the final and essential step-the official go-ahead from Juventus’ ownership-has yet to arrive. “There is no green light from the ownership to proceed with signing the contracts,” Moretto explained, highlighting that some minor issues have surfaced in recent hours, further slowing down the process.

Uncertainty Despite a Strong Season

McKennie, whose current contract runs until 2026, is coming off a strong season in black and white. He carved out a significant role under both Thiago Motta and Igor Tudor, earning the trust of the coaching staff and fans alike. The club had expressed a clear desire to keep him at the heart of their midfield plans.

Yet, ongoing uncertainty at the executive level and continued economic evaluations by the club’s parent company, Exor, are preventing the deal from being finalized. The hesitation is not related to McKennie’s performances but rather to broader financial and strategic considerations.
