Moggi: “Juventus No Longer Scare Anyone — Are the Coaches to Blame?”

Start

Former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has voiced strong criticism of the club’s current state, questioning whether constant blame placed on coaches tells the whole story. Speaking on Juventibus* via Twitch, Moggi reflected on Igor Tudor’s position and the team’s struggles to rediscover their identity.

“Juventus did reasonably well in Madrid, and that result spared Tudor from being sacked — he’ll be on the bench again in Rome against Lazio,” Moggi began. “But is Continassa now just a revolving door for coaches? Will it always be the coach’s fault? Take Allegri, for example — he was heavily criticised despite defending Juventus, and yet he ended up being applauded at the Stadium.”

The former director then pointed to what he considers the root of the team’s problems. “We need to look at the origin of the issue. The team lacks its engine — the midfield — and the players who can finish chances. As for Tudor’s words, they sound more like a defensive reaction, but a coach should defend himself through results. The match in Verona exposed the team’s shortcomings: Juventus conceded two goals, one later disallowed, against a side that hadn’t scored before. Juventus don’t frighten anyone anymore — every team goes after them.”

Moggi also commented on Tudor’s recent remarks about the fixture list, which drew mixed reactions among supporters. “Someone should be helping Tudor. Perhaps he said things he could have avoided. Only a team with real ambitions can complain about its calendar — that’s where a club director should step in and adjust the message,” he said.

Looking ahead to the clash with Lazio, Moggi urged caution: “Juventus need to play at least not to lose, though they might even win. But Tudor is facing huge difficulties right now.”
