“My Dream Is to Play in Europe”: Wesley Speaks on Juventus and Roma Interest

Start

Wesley, Flamengo’s promising right-back, has become one of the most talked-about names in the transfer market, with both Juventus and Roma expressing strong interest in securing his signature. As speculation intensifies, Wesley has addressed his future, the interest from Italy, and the advice he’s received from some of Brazil’s most notable exports to Serie A.

Wesley’s European Ambition

“My dream is to play in Europe at least once in my career,” Wesley revealed in a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (as quoted by IlBianconero) , highlighting his long-term aspirations. Despite the swirling rumors, the 21-year-old remains focused on his current club and their campaign at the Club World Cup. “Right now, I am happy in Brazil and focused on Flamengo in this wonderful adventure we are experiencing at the Club World Cup. We want to do well and go as far as possible. Brazilian teams are showing they are on par with European football.”

Interest from Juventus and Roma

Wesley did not shy away from acknowledging the attention he’s receiving from Italy’s top clubs. “I know about the interest from Roma and Juventus, but it’s not the right moment to talk about the future,” he stated, making it clear that any transfer decision will come after the current tournament.

The Brazilian full-back also shared insights from conversations with some of his compatriots who have made the move to Italy. “Jorginho, Danilo, and Alex Sandro have spoken to me a lot about Italy and told me that moving to Serie A would be a great experience for me and a very important step for my growth,” Wesley said.

However, when pressed specifically about Juventus, Wesley clarified, “No, they haven’t told me anything about Juventus because, as experienced players, they know very well that right now we all need to be focused on the Club World Cup. We’ve talked a lot, but not specifically about Juventus.”

Flamengo’s Position and the Transfer Market

While Wesley is attracting significant attention, Flamengo’s stance remains firm. The club values their star defender highly, with reports indicating an asking price above €20 million. Flamengo’s sporting director, José Boto, recently commented, “Officially there is nothing. But unofficially, €20 million is not enough. It should be at least €30 million. He is ready for Europe but we don’t have to sell him.”

Competition for Wesley’s Signature

Both Juventus and Roma are in the hunt for a dynamic presence on the right flank. Roma’s new coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, has made Wesley a top target, stating, “Wesley is a talented full-back who would be a valuable addition to our squad. He has the attributes we are looking for in a player, and we believe he can make a significant impact at Roma.”

Juventus, meanwhile, are hoping that the influence of former Flamengo and current Juventus players Danilo and Alex Sandro could help persuade Wesley to join them in Turin.
