OFFICIAL: Joao Mario Joins Bologna on Loan

Joao Mario’s time at Juventus has come to an early end. The Portuguese winger has officially joined Bologna on loan, continuing his Serie A journey under the guidance of Vincenzo Italiano.

After just six months in Turin, the 26-year-old leaves Juventus to join the Rossoblù until 30 June 2026. The club confirmed the move in a statement, marking the end of his first spell with the Bianconeri but not his adventure in Italian football.

The Official Announcement

In the second half of the season, Juventus and Joao Mario go their separate ways. The versatile full-back will continue his career in Italy, as his loan move to Bologna has been finalised.

Since joining from Porto last summer—part of the deal that saw Alberto Costa return to Portugal—Joao Mario made thirteen appearances across Serie A and the Champions League. He also registered an assist on his European debut for the club against Borussia Dortmund.

Transfer Details

The deal is a straightforward loan valid until the end of the 2025/26 season, with no purchase option included. Joao Mario will therefore remain with Bologna for the next eighteen months, offering depth and experience to Italiano’s squad as they continue their push for European qualification.

Joao Mario’s Record with Juventus

– 13 appearances
– 3 starts
– 0 goals
– 1 assist
– 373 minutes played

Once viewed as a promising addition to the Bianconeri’s wing options, Joao Mario gradually slipped down the pecking order under both Igor Tudor and Luciano Spalletti. His move to Bologna offers a chance to relaunch his career and gain consistent playing time in Serie A.
