In an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, Peer Koopmeiners, brother of Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, shared insights into his sibling’s challenging season and future prospects. The AZ Alkmaar player addressed concerns about Teun’s performance and adaptation to life in Turin.

Reflecting on Teun’s difficult season, Peer acknowledged the pressure his brother faces due to his high transfer fee. However, he emphasized the challenges of adapting to a new environment: “People often don’t realize what it means to change surroundings and adapt to new teammates, a new coach, and a different playing style. Plus, he plays a different role in Turin.”

Peer expressed confidence in Teun’s ability to overcome these challenges: “I can guarantee you that my brother wants to return to being the player he was at Atalanta and help the team with goals and assists. I know how he is, and I know that every single day he gives his all to be decisive again. It’s really just a matter of time before he returns to his Bergamo form.”

Addressing Teun’s future at Juventus, Peer was unequivocal: “His goal is to stay at Juve. We’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in the world. He loves Italy and Juve and doesn’t regret his choice even one percent.” He added, “I had never seen him as happy as in the photos he sent me on the day of his presentation. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there on the day of the signing, but his face spoke clearly: I had never seen such happiness on his face before.”

When asked about his own aspirations, Peer revealed his desire to play in Italy: “I have this dream in my drawer, yes. The Premier League might be the best championship in the world, but I want Italy. When I visit Teun, I realize how much Italians love football, and I adore the way Italian teams play, especially in European competitions. Serie A is a fantastic championship full of great teams and top players.”

Peer also shared insights into what makes AZ Alkmaar a special club and a talent factory: “Everyone says this club is like a family. I took my first steps at AZ Alkmaar at the age of ten, and many people spend many years at this club. Then here you are given the time needed to grow as a player. And this is fundamental! Then young people are given an opportunity in the first team.”
