Fabio Cannavaro has spoken about Juventus’ current form and the Serie A title battle in an interview with Tuttosport, praising Italy coach Luciano Spalletti and reflecting on the Bianconeri’s chances this season.
The former Juventus defender recently acquired the Paradiso a Marechiaro sports centre—where Diego Maradona once trained—with the aim of creating a new football academy. Speaking to the outlet, Cannavaro analysed the balance at the top of Serie A, saying:
“There isn’t a team showing more consistency than the others. But that’s normal because the Champions League takes up a lot of energy. Juventus are a step behind the rest, but I don’t think they should give up on the dream of becoming champions of Italy again. And then, with Spalletti on the bench…”
Asked whether “everything is possible” under Spalletti, Cannavaro replied with enthusiasm:
“I’d say yes. Spalletti is a coach who drives me crazy; I’ve always liked him. When you watch his teams play, there’s always something to learn. He’s my favourite.”
Cannavaro also touched on Spalletti’s experience with the national team, offering an honest view of the challenges involved in coaching Italy:
“It didn’t work because the national team isn’t a club, and it requires more streamlined management.”
Finally, the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner shared his thoughts on Juventus youngster Kenan Yildiz and his new creative role:
“He has quality, but sometimes he looks more like a winger.”
