“The Call Is Strong”: Platini Proud of Elkann for Rejecting Juventus Sale

Michel Platini has spoken once again about Juventus, sharing his thoughts in an interview with Il Giornale. The Bianconeri legend touched on two central topics: his potential return to the club in a presidential role and the recent takeover proposal from Tether, which Exor and John Elkann firmly rejected.

“Selling Juventus Is Impossible”

Platini began by addressing the speculation surrounding the possible sale of Juventus.

“I don’t think anything of it, in fact I’m proud that John Elkann has already turned the offer down. Selling Juventus is impossible. Juventus is not just part of Italian or international football history – Juventus means Agnelli. It’s a unique phenomenon, one that began more than a century ago and is destined to continue. You can’t sell emotions, fans, or tradition, and John Elkann knows that perfectly well.”

“Tether? Extreme Caution”

The former Juventus number 10 also commented on the offer from Tether, expressing cautious scepticism about modern financial players entering the football landscape.

“I don’t know the people who want to buy Juventus. The world of new finance still needs to be explored and approached with the utmost care and caution. I repeat, maximum caution. I cannot predict the future, but I’m sure John will not accept any offer from these minority investors.”

“Juventus President? The Call Is Strong”

Speculation around Platini one day returning to Juventus in an executive role has never completely faded, and he admitted the idea still carries emotional weight.

“People still ask me about it today. I’ve thought about it, but my family takes priority over everything, and at seventy years old, we can’t start a new adventure again, even if the call is strong. That doesn’t mean I’ll stop being close to Juventus — the Juventus of the Agnelli family, the Juventus of John Elkann.”

“The Ballon d’Or Is at John’s Home”

Platini closed the interview by reminiscing fondly about his years in Turin and the enduring bond with the Agnelli family.

“I can never forget those five wonderful years for the team and for my career. The relationship I built with the Avvocato and the rest of the family was magnificent. My Ballon d’Or is at John’s home — that’s another sign of the mutual respect and affection we continue to share.”
