“We can still pick up something”: Spalletti urges Juventus to keep pace after beating Cremonese

Start

Luciano Spalletti insisted Juventus can “still pick up something” in the Serie A title race after his side’s commanding 5–0 win over Cremonese at the Allianz Stadium.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, the Juventus head coach praised his players’ approach and focus against a well-organised opponent, while acknowledging both fortune and consistency as factors in the result.

>m “What can come out when you do this job here… there can always be surprises,” Spalletti said. “There’s the pitch, there’s the distance to cover. We played a good match, we started with the right attitude against a side like Cremonese who know their craft. Their coach knows the division well and what his teams need to do. It was a difficult game, but with a bit of luck on the first goal it went our way — though we also had some bad luck with the shot that hit the post. We showed continuity and were quite effective for long stretches, even if there were some small dips.”

On Inter and Napoli

Turning to Juventus’s rivals, Spalletti admitted admiration for Inter and Napoli following their recent meeting, while expressing confidence that his own side can continue to close the gap.

“I watched that game carefully yesterday. They’re two teams I like a lot, and they played a beautiful match — open, with two coaches who know how to do their job well,” he said. “We need to grow to reach that level, and we have to do it quickly, because there’s always more football to be played. But I see great commitment and willingness — there’s still the possibility to pick up something.”

On his contract

Asked about his future, Spalletti dismissed any concerns over his contract situation, making clear that his focus remains entirely on the team.

“I’ve already spoken about that — I’m the only one who doesn’t need contracts right now,” he explained. “If I were to start again, I’d hope to find another team. We’ve already talked about this very clearly with the CEO; it doesn’t interest me at all. What interests me is seeing players who follow you, who give you the emotion you’ve had since you were a child. That’s what makes the difference. The contract issue was already discussed before Lecce — if it had come up before this match too, I wouldn’t have answered.”

On himself and his players

The 67-year-old reflected with humour on how little he believes he has changed, while acknowledging the importance of adapting to a modern dressing room.

“I change very little — I’m an old man now, and my kids remind me of that all the time,” Spalletti said. “Changing my attitude would be tough, but you have to try to stay up to date. With players as strong and sharp as mine, they become an important motivation.”

On the penalties

Finally, Spalletti was quick to downplay the controversy surrounding the two penalties awarded during the game, one of which was later overturned.

“For me, neither of them was a penalty — that’s just my opinion,” he remarked.
