OFFICIAL: Juventus Trigger Boga Purchase Option in Carnevali’s First Transfer Market Move

Giovanni Carnevali has wasted no time making his mark on Juventus’s transfer activity. In his first official act as the club’s new chief executive, Juventus have exercised the purchase option on Jérémie Boga, making the Ivorian winger’s loan from Nice permanent.

The Deal in Detail

Boga arrived at the Continassa in January on a free loan from the French club, with Juventus retaining the right to sign him permanently. The fee agreed at the time of the original loan was €4.8 million, payable across two financial periods. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the club have now confirmed they will exercise that option.

It is a modest outlay by any measure — and a highly pragmatic one. At €4.8 million for a player of Boga’s experience and versatility, the deal represents precisely the kind of commercially disciplined thinking that characterised Carnevali’s years at Sassuolo, where he famously signed Boga from Chelsea for €10 million before selling him on to Atalanta for €22 million.

A Familiar Face for the New CEO

There is a pleasing symmetry to Carnevali’s first act at Juventus involving a player he himself had once sold. Boga spent three seasons at Sassuolo under Carnevali’s stewardship, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most exciting wide players before his move to Atalanta and subsequently to Nice. The decision to commit to his purchase suggests Boga has done enough in his six months at the club to merit a longer stay — and that the new administration values continuity and experience in the wide areas as the broader rebuild takes shape.

With far larger and more complex decisions still to be made — on Dibu Martínez, Alexander Sorloth, and the club’s defensive reinforcements — the Boga purchase represents a clean, straightforward piece of business. A small but confident opening statement from the man now charged with reshaping Juventus.
