Juventus Determined to Secure McKennie Renewal

Start

Juventus are not giving up on Weston McKennie’s contract renewal. The American has become indispensable under Luciano Spalletti, and the club are determined to play their hand until the very end to secure his stay in Turin.

It feels like a familiar story for McKennie. Once again, his season began with uncertainty, his contract running down and the prospect of a departure lingering in the background. Yet, as often happens with the Texan, the pitch has done the talking. Through performances and consistency, McKennie has once more overturned expectations, proving himself irreplaceable — again.

IlBiancnonero report how, at the beginning of the campaign, McKennie found himself lower in the pecking order, featuring only in short spells under Igor Tudor. However, the managerial change brought renewed balance and energy to the team — and McKennie has become the symbol of that resurgence. His ability to adapt and deliver has turned him into one of Spalletti’s key assets, prompting Juventus to redouble their efforts to extend his contract.

A True All-Rounder Under Spalletti

Labelled a “joker” since arriving in Turin, McKennie has fully lived up to that reputation this season. Under Spalletti, he has featured across multiple positions — as an attacking midfielder, on both flanks, and even dropping deeper to support Manuel Locatelli and Khéphren Thuram in midfield. His tactical intelligence and flexibility have made him a constant presence in the side.

Since Spalletti’s arrival, McKennie has not started a single game on the bench, and he has only been substituted twice — against Lecce and Sassuolo. Beyond his reliability, he has also contributed in the final third, scoring key goals against Lecce and in the Champions League in Bodo, as well as playing a decisive role in goals against Cremonese and Pisa.

Contract Clock Ticking

McKennie’s current deal runs until 30 June. His last renewal came in the summer of 2024, after a move to Aston Villa in a swap for Douglas Luiz fell through. That deal eventually centred on Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea, with McKennie’s contract extended until 2026. Since then, talks over a further renewal have stalled, mainly due to disagreements over financial terms with his representatives.

Juventus Won’t Back Down

Juventus are well aware of McKennie’s importance. The midfielder recently made his 200th appearance for the club, cementing his status as one of the pillars of Spalletti’s side. For that reason, discussions are expected to resume in the coming weeks, with the club keen to find common ground.

The Bianconeri know that McKennie embodies the attitude and versatility that define this new Juventus. And while the future remains uncertain, one thing is clear — they intend to fight to keep their Texan midfielder beyond the summer.
