Multiple reports from Italy suggest Juventus are moving decisively for Oscar Mingueza, aiming to bring the Spanish defender to Turin during the current transfer window rather than waiting until the summer. Strengthening at right-back is one of the priorities for the Bianconeri, with Luciano Spalletti keen to add depth and quality to that position as soon as possible.
The profile identified by Juventus is that of Mingueza, currently with Celta Vigo. The former Barcelona defender’s contract is set to expire soon, and a renewal with the Spanish club appears increasingly unlikely. For this reason, Juventus have decided to step up their pursuit and make him a concrete target for January.
Juventus’ Strategy: Now or in June?
Initially, Mingueza was among Juventus’ potential signings for next season, seen as a cost-effective option given his contract situation. However, recent evaluations at the club’s Continassa headquarters have changed that plan. The club now intends to bring him in immediately, believing his arrival could bolster Spalletti’s options for the second half of the campaign.
The Offer to Celta Vigo
With the winter transfer window already at its halfway point, Juventus are pressing ahead in their efforts to sign Mingueza. Negotiations are expected to intensify over the coming days, with the Italian club preparing an offer to Celta Vigo.
Given Mingueza’s contractual situation—he would be free to sign for any club from February onwards—Juventus hope to reach an agreement at a favourable price, taking advantage of the leverage this scenario provides.
Celta Vigo’s Stance
Celta Vigo are fully aware that retaining Mingueza beyond this season will be extremely difficult. However, they have their own reasons for preferring to delay his departure until the summer.
One of the key factors is financial: 50% of any transfer fee from Mingueza’s sale would go to Barcelona, his former club. That clause makes an immediate transfer less appealing, as a sale now would bring in limited revenue. For this reason, Celta may decide to keep the player until his contract expires, despite the risk of losing him for free.
