Fabrizio Romano has firmly ruled out any possibility of Granit Xhaka joining Juventus in the January transfer window. Speaking on his YouTube channel (as quoted by TuttoJuve), the well-known journalist reiterated that the Swiss midfielder will not be leaving Sunderland mid-season.
“The rumours linking Xhaka to Juventus have resurfaced in recent months,” Romano explained, “but I have already denied them and I repeat — the Xhaka-to-Juventus route is absolutely impossible in January. Sunderland are fully committed to their captain, not only for the winter but also for the summer ahead.”
Xhaka has become a central figure in Sunderland’s project after the club made a significant investment to sign him last summer, outbidding interest from AC Milan, Juventus, and other European clubs. Sunderland reportedly paid over £20 million to secure the 32-year-old, far exceeding the initial market expectations of around £7–8 million.
Romano described Xhaka as “the heartbeat of Sunderland’s project”, emphasising that the club views him as a leader both on and off the pitch. With such importance placed on his role, Sunderland have no intention of entertaining transfer talks in January — regardless of persistent speculation.
