Giorgio Chiellini has officially taken on a new institutional role within Italian football. The Juventus Director of Football Strategy has been elected to the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) Council during the latest Lega Serie A assembly.
The former Juventus and Italy defender now joins the governing body as the league’s representative, filling the vacancy left by Francesco Calvo. Calvo, the former Managing Director for Revenue & Institutional Relations at Juventus, stepped down earlier this year before taking up a position at Aston Villa.
Representing Serie A in the FIGC
Chiellini’s appointment strengthens the presence of prominent football executives within the federation’s decision-making structure. He will now sit alongside Serie A President Ezio Maria Simonelli, Inter’s Chief Executive Giuseppe Marotta, and Udinese Vice-President Stefano Campoccia as representatives of the top division within the FIGC Council.
A Convincing Result
According to reports from *Calcio & Finanza*, Chiellini was elected with a strong majority, earning 12 votes out of a possible 20. His competitors included Giovanni Carnevali, Chief Executive of Sassuolo, who received three votes, and Saverio Sticchi Damiani, President of Lecce, who collected two.
The result underlines the confidence Serie A clubs have in Chiellini’s vision and leadership as he continues his post-playing career in management and governance.
The Current Composition of the FIGC Council
Following this election, the FIGC Council now includes a broad representation of Italy’s footballing institutions:
– **Serie A:** Ezio Maria Simonelli (President), Stefano Campoccia (Udinese), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Giuseppe Marotta (Inter)
– **Serie B:** Paolo Bedin (President), Antonio Gozzi (Virtus Entella)

In addition, the Italian members of FIFA and UEFA’s Executive Committees are part of the Council by right, albeit without voting privileges. The Presidents of the Referees’ Association and of the various divisions within the federation also participate in the work of the Federal Council.
Chiellini’s election further consolidates Juventus’ institutional presence in Italian football, marking another milestone in the defender’s transition from pitch leader to boardroom influence.
