Juventus Keep Tabs on Hjulmand Ahead of January: The Situation

Start

It has been a promising start for Luciano Spalletti as Juventus manager, with the Bianconeri defeating Cremonese 2-1 away to secure their first league win under his guidance. On Tuesday night, 4 November, Juventus will make their Champions League debut under Spalletti, hosting Sporting Lisbon at the Allianz Stadium.

Among the visitors will be a familiar face: Morten Hjulmand, the former Lecce midfielder who remains firmly on Juventus’ radar. The Danish international was discussed as a potential signing during the summer window, and he will be closely monitored when the two sides meet in Europe. Juventus are expected to strengthen their midfield in January, and Hjulmand continues to feature prominently on the shortlist of options.

Hjulmand’s Value and Transfer Context

Calciomercato report how during the summer transfer period, Hjulmand attempted to push for a move, but Sporting Lisbon stood firm, retaining their captain. His contract includes a 60 million euro release clause, and the Portuguese club reportedly turned down a 40 million euro bid from Manchester United a few months ago. United manager Ruben Amorim, who previously coached Hjulmand at Sporting, remains an admirer and could reignite his interest in the player if circumstances allow.

Juventus will follow developments closely, viewing Hjulmand as a profile that could fit perfectly into Spalletti’s long-term plans for midfield reinforcement. Tuesday’s match offers the ideal opportunity for a first-hand assessment.

Other Midfield Options: Tonali

Regardless of names, Juventus appear determined to make a meaningful investment in midfield—either immediately in January or by agreeing a strategic loan with a view to summer 2026. Apart from Hjulmand, two other targets remain on the club’s radar: Sandro Tonali and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Tonali, currently at Newcastle United, is admired in Turin but is not considered an easy target. The Premier League club see him as a key part of their project and are working to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2028.
