The Athletic report that Juventus have stepped back from negotiations for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and are now weighing up a move for Youssef En-Nesyri of Fenerbahce. The Italian club have decided not to pursue a deal for Mateta due to the Premier League side’s €40 million (£34.7m, $46.6m) valuation — a figure they regard as excessive.
The French forward, who turns 29 in June, was eager for the move and had already indicated his readiness to agree personal terms. However, Juventus did not feel the overall cost justified the signing, particularly with the player due to enter the final year of his contract next summer.
The Turin club also view the associated expenses, including substantial agent commissions, as an additional obstacle. Those financial considerations have ultimately convinced Juventus to redirect their search elsewhere as they continue to look for a striker to strengthen Luciano Spalletti’s squad.
Focus Shifts to En-Nesyri
Among the options now under serious evaluation is Morocco international Youssef En-Nesyri. The 28-year-old has been with Fenerbahce since his 2024 move from Sevilla but has seen his role diminish following the arrival of John Duran. En-Nesyri’s experience, mobility, and availability on more manageable financial terms make him an appealing target for Juventus, who hope to secure reinforcements before the window closes.
Palace Reluctant to Sell
Crystal Palace’s stance is understandable given their turbulent months on and off the pitch. The sale of Marc Guehi to Manchester City and confirmation that manager Oliver Glasner will leave at the end of the season have already unsettled the club. With their captain gone and a managerial change on the horizon, Palace remain firm in their valuation of Mateta and are unwilling to part with another key figure at a discounted price.
