Spalletti to DAZN: “David isn’t calm right now, but he’s a deadly finisher in the box”

Start

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti spoke to DAZN before kick-off in the Bianconeri’s fixture against Lecce, as his side aimed to secure a fourth consecutive league win following victories over Bologna, Roma and Pisa.

Looking ahead to the match, Spalletti underlined the importance of Juventus maintaining their identity and pride regardless of the opponent:

“The colour of the shirts changes, but ours does not. We are called Juve for a reason — we must have respect for our opponents, for ourselves, for our fans, and for the club’s history. We have to play our match regardless of who we face. These players deserve to play in such an atmosphere because they’ve worked seriously and earned it.”

The coach also discussed the team’s attacking mindset and the tactical challenges of breaking down opponents who adopt a low defensive block.

“Making the difference in the final 16 metres? It’s easy to see that this is where matches are decided. Man-to-man situations are difficult to break through, and teams become even more determined when they face Juventus. A low block always causes problems, but having arrows like Yildiz and Conceição gives us openings to exploit. We can’t see everything, so sometimes we have to play where we ‘feel’ it.”

Finally, Spalletti praised striker Jonathan David, highlighting both his professionalism and potential, while acknowledging his current need for greater composure in front of goal.

“David is doing very well — he’s serious and a top professional. He has the quality to connect with teammates wherever he is on the pitch. He’s an incredible finisher inside the box. I’m sorry that right now he doesn’t feel completely calm to show his full qualities, but I assure you that as a scorer he’s truly top class.”
