Alessandro Del Piero, Juventus legend and former captain, has delivered a scathing critique of his old club’s performance following their 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina. Speaking to Sky Sport (as quoted by Calciomercato), the iconic number 10, who has been repeatedly called upon by fans to return to the club in an official capacity, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the team’s attitude and manager Thiago Motta’s decisions.
Del Piero’s primary concern was not the loss itself, but the team’s demeanor throughout the match. “What stood out to me today, and I think it’s the most serious sign, is the total absence of reaction,” he stated, drawing from his own experiences of difficult seasons. “This means you’re in a very low state, and it doesn’t reflect the ‘Juventus Spirit’ at all. You can win or lose, but always with your head held high.”
The former striker questioned the players’ commitment, suggesting that none of them could be at peace knowing they had given their all. He was particularly critical of the lack of response both on the field and from the bench, pointing out, “The first three substitutions were three defenders! You can’t lack a reaction when you’re ‘being punched’.”
Del Piero’s comments highlight a growing concern about Juventus’ current form and mentality. “Seven goals conceded in two matches: there’s little to comment on,” he added, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
